Portia de Rossi is an Australian-American model, actress and author, who was born in Victoria, Australia. Her birth name is Amanda Lee Rogers. Her parents are Margaret and Barry Rogers. Her father died when she was only nine years old. She has an older brother.

At a young age, Portia was determined to reinvent herself, and adopted a new name, Portia, from a character in Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, and she chose an Italian last name because she liked the way it sounded. She was fifteen years old.

After modelling for a few years, she made the move to Los Angeles and launched her acting career. She is known for her role in the hit television show, Ally McBeal. Following its success were several more television shows and movies, which kept her in the spotlight. In 2018, she announced she would be retiring from acting.
